In a landmark move that promises affordable airline services for Sierra Leonean citizens, the Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has successfully brokered an agreement with the Board of Airlines.
As a result of these negotiations, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has declared a suspension of all new charges, originally set to commence on December 1, 2023.
The Director General’s compelling proposal during the discussions garnered unanimous backing from the Airlines Board as well as IATA, heralding a period of respite for air travelers. With the newly announced halt in charges, a significant reduction in air travel costs is anticipated, paving the way for greater public access to aviation services.
Further solidifying its commitment to the welfare of Sierra Leone’s air travelers, the SLCAA’s newly instituted leadership has voiced its intention to embark on crucial renegotiations with the Summa Group. These upcoming discussions seek to forge reciprocal arrangements that not only benefit the Summa Group but also prioritize the interests of Sierra Leone’s citizens.
Such proactive endeavors from the Sierra Leone Aviation Authority highlight an unwavering dedication to cultivate a robust aviation industry. It underscores a clear vision – ensuring that the skies are more accessible and affordable to everyone in Sierra Leone.
Good news for all, although too late. But better late than never. I hope the government and all responsible will learn their lessons out of this.
A very proactive approach for the betterment of everyone
