The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has closed down Urban Travel and Tours, an air ticketing agency operating without a valid license in Freetown.

In a public notice issued on 12th November 2025, the Authority confirmed that the agency, located at 1 Back Street, Freetown, had been conducting air ticket sales in violation of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Act 2023.

According to the SLCAA, enforcement action was taken under Section 15 of the Act, which mandates the Authority to regulate all civil aviation activities in the country, including the certification and oversight of air travel agencies. The Act empowers the SLCAA to ensure compliance with both national aviation laws and international standards outlined in the Chicago Convention.

Citing subsection (bb) of the regulation, the Authority highlighted its clear legal responsibility to “certify and regulate air travel agencies”, stressing that Urban Travel and Tours had failed to meet the required standards.

As a result, the SLCAA officially sealed the agency’s offices and issued a stern warning to the public to avoid all transactions with Urban Travel and Tours for air ticketing services.

In its statement, the Authority reaffirmed its commitment to protecting travelers, ensuring transparency, and maintaining the integrity of the aviation sector. It emphasized that all aviation-related businesses must operate in full compliance with established regulations to safeguard the interests of the public.

The SLCAA continues to urge citizens to verify the licensing status of travel agencies before purchasing tickets or engaging in related transactions.
