The High Court will today, Monday, March 3, 2025, hear the matter involving Umu Jalloh, the surviving spouse of the estate of Mohamed Bob Jalloh, and Abdul Karim Jalloh (1st Defendant), Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) (2nd Defendant), and the General Manager of SLCB (3rd Defendant). The case will be presided over by Justice Adrian Fisher.
Sierra Leone Commercial Bank and New Age Newspaper appeared before Justice Fisher of High Court No. 12 following allegations of defamation.
The bank claims that an article published by New Age on November 14, 2024, titled “SLCB MD: Yusufu Abdul Silla to pay Le 10 billion… For Estate Fraud”, was defamatory.
During the hearing on Thursday, February 27, Counsel for the first defendant, Teddy Koroma, requested an adjournment, citing his attendance at a paternity test at Ramsey Laboratory.
In response, Lawyer Tejan, representing the plaintiff, was cautioned by Justice Fisher, who acknowledged Koroma’s request and approved the adjournment.
Justice Fisher further noted that the case involves several contentious issues and stressed the need for a comprehensive hearing. Consequently, he scheduled the matter as the first case for today, Monday, March 3, 2025.
During the previous hearing on Monday, February 24, the plaintiff’s counsel had argued that the Letter of Administration granted to the 1st defendant was unlawful and fake, citing violations of the Devolution of Estates Act. The Judge then advised the plaintiff’s counsel to review his argument and return to court today for further deliberation.
As the case resumes, all parties are expected to present their arguments, particularly regarding the alleged defamation claims against New Age Newspaper and the validity of the Letter of Administration in the estate dispute.
