The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has picked a new date for the National Women’s Wing Leader election due to allegation of fraud on the previous one.
The election was held in Kailahun Town in the Eastern Province on Saturday 27th November, 2021 which brought a coax between the incumbent Fatmata Sawaneh and the First Lady Fatima Bio. The Saturday election was cancelled by the National Secretary General of SLPP, Napoleon Koroma Esq. through an instruction from the National Chairman of the party, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.
The Women’s Wing Leader election is now rescheduled to take place on Thursday 2nd December, 2021 at Catco Hall in Freetown.
According to sources, First Lady Fatima Bio imposed Hawa Foray whom she wants to win the election and lead the SLPP Women’s Wing. The sources added that, majority of the delegates were in favour of the incumbent Madam Fatmata Sawaneh which Fatima Bio’s camp saw as threat. It was alleged USD500 was given to the delegates to vote for Hawa Foray. Despite all that, they attempted to defraud the election which was noticed by Sawaneh’s camp.
As blames were casted on the National Chairman, the National Secretary General and the wife of President Bio, First Lady Fatima Bio for interrupting the election, His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio instructed The National Secretary General, Napoleon Koroma Esq. to cancel the election and select a new date. The election will now be held on Thursday 2nd December, 2021 in Freetown.
