Global Times can authoritatively report that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the main opposition SLPP will be convened soon to review the expulsion of Ambassador Alie Bangura in line with an agreement reached at the PPRC sponsored peace talks.

The Alie Bangura group which took the SLPP to court in 2013 following their defeat at the party’s delegates conference in Bo has held several peace talks with the Chief Somano Kapen led executive in recent weeks under the auspices of the PPRC.

It was agreed at the last PPRC meeting last week that the national executive will convene a NEC meeting to review the expulsion while Ambassador Bangura will also take practical steps to withdraw all court cases he had filed against the SLPP.

Ambassador Bangura was expelled from the party on April 16, 2015 at a meeting of national officers after he had sought a Supreme Court injunction restraining the opposition party from functioning. His expulsion was ratified by NEC later that month.

Although he had in 2013 rejected the PPRC recommendations for peace, Ambassador Bangura quickly sought the intervention of the Commission in May after his expulsion was ratified by NEC.
Meanwhile, impeaccable sources at the PPRC expressed serious reservation as to the sincerity of Ambassador Alie Bangura in the implementation of his side of the peace agreement.

Global Times was told authoritatively over the wekend that Mr. Bangura had indicated that the motion for the withdrawal of court cases should be moved by the defendant (SLPP), not him, the plaintiff.

An SLPP executive member contacted said; “We will show good faith by convening NEC to review the expulsion and we expect him, Alie Bangura to also show good faith by withdrawing all court cases he, himself had filed as agreed”.
