The Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority (SLPTA) has implemented a new ticketing system for its Waka Fine buses, starting immediately.
This decision was made in response to the discovery of counterfeit tickets being circulated, resulting in significant revenue losses for the authority.
The SLPTA management announced, “We have become aware that some unscrupulous individuals have flooded the market with fake tickets.”
To tackle this issue, the SLPTA will accept both old and new tickets until Wednesday, August 7, 2024. The statement also mentioned that “Passengers who have purchased valid old tickets can use them until August 7th.”
Starting Thursday, August 8, 2024, only new tickets will be valid for travel on Waka Fine buses.
The SLPTA stressed, “From August 8th, old bus tickets will no longer be accepted on the Waka Fine buses.” Passengers are also advised to keep their tickets for inspection by SLPTA supervisors.
Furthermore, the SLPTA is also set to introduce a digitized cashless bus card ticketing system in the near future.
Very good move.
