A cross-section of the Board of Directors of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) conducted site visits to Kabala, Makeni, and Kono. The visits took place on the 19th and 20th of July, 2024.

The primary focus of these visits was to evaluate the advancement of the Kabala-Limbaya Highway and to scrutinize the work being done on the Makeni township roads.

These critical infrastructure projects are part of the government’s broader initiative to improve the country’s road network, facilitating better connectivity and fostering economic growth.

During their visit to the Kabala-Limbaya Highway, the Board members engaged in detailed discussions with the contractors on-site. They examined the quality of work, adherence to timelines, and compliance with safety standards.

The contractors outlined several challenges, including logistical issues and unpredictable weather conditions, which have occasionally hampered progress. However, they assured the Board of their commitment to overcoming these obstacles and completing the project within the stipulated timeframe.

In Makeni, the Board held comprehensive meetings with both the contractor and the consultant overseeing the township roads project. These discussions provided a platform for the Board to understand the technical and operational difficulties faced by the teams.

Key issues highlighted included delays in material supply and the need for enhanced coordination among different stakeholders. The Board emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards and ensuring timely delivery of the projects to benefit the local communities.
