The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) in Pujehun District, in collaboration with the District Traffic Officer (DTO) and Drivers’ Union executives, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, conducted a joint road safety sensitisation outreach in Gbondapi.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to promote safe transportation and reduce road accidents across the district.

The outreach, led by the Head of Station, SLRSA Pujehun, Alfred Senesie, brought together drivers, commercial motorbike riders, and boat operators in the Gbondapi community. The session focused on educating participants on the importance of adhering to traffic regulations on both land and water as a means of safeguarding lives and properties.

Providing an overview of the initiative, Senesie emphasised that the sensitisation campaign is aimed at strengthening awareness and compliance with road safety rules among all categories of transport operators. He noted that many recent accidents are largely attributed to negligence, overspeeding, overloading, and failure to observe basic safety precautions.

He added that the SLRSA, in collaboration with key stakeholders, remains committed to ensuring that road users understand their responsibilities and contribute to preventing avoidable tragedies. Senesie further advised drivers and riders to avoid reckless driving, ensure their vehicles and motorbikes are roadworthy, and use protective gear such as helmets and life jackets where necessary. He stressed that safety on waterways is equally important, particularly in communities where water transport is widely used.

The District Traffic Officer of the Pujehun Police Division, Lawrence Sao Taylor, reaffirmed the commitment of the Sierra Leone Police to enforcing traffic laws and maintaining order on the roads. He cautioned drivers and riders against violating traffic regulations, warning that such actions endanger both their lives and those of passengers and pedestrians.

ASP Taylor further noted that the police will continue to work closely with SLRSA and other stakeholders to intensify monitoring and enforcement across the district. He encouraged transport operators to cooperate with authorities and prioritise safety over speed or profit.

A representative of the Drivers’ Union expressed appreciation to the SLRSA and the Sierra Leone Police for the initiative, noting that it would help reinforce knowledge of essential safety measures among drivers and riders.
