The management of SLRA has informed the public that the 12 manually operated ferries located in the rural areas of Sierra Leone have been grounded during the months of July and August, as a result of high river levels and turbulent flows.
SLRA contractors are engaged during this period to undertake maintenance of the ferries, in readiness for resumption of normal ferry operations in the month of September.
Hence, the public is informed that the following ferries will be grounded: Ribbi; Masimera; Mabanta; Yebele; Tomparie; Kombrabai; Gendema; Manowa; and Mattru. Meanwhile, the Bantoro, Kabba and Manawo ferries remain operational but will be observed during the raining season.

This is shameful to this country. In the 21st century people are still using manual ferry services. Instead of them providing the basic services people deserve they are busy cutting off their livelihood means of survival.
