The Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority (SLRTA) has announced that, due to the deteriorating condition of the Old Railway Line Bridge (Brookfield), only cars and light vans with a maximum weight of 4 tons will be allowed to cross.

This decision follows growing concerns from residents of the St. John community after images of the bridge’s dilapidated state surfaced on Facebook.

The SLRTA has assured the public that measures will be taken to retrofit the bridge and restore normal vehicular traffic. Additional physical barriers will be installed to enforce the load restriction.

Residents have reported visible cracks and structural damage on the bridge, raising alarms about potential dangers to pedestrians, traders, students, and drivers who rely on the structure daily. Residents describe the bridge as unsafe and unstable, warning that continued use without repairs could lead to accidents or even a collapse.
