Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, a prominent politician, has publicly announced that she will not accept any government position under President Julius Maada Bio, reaffirming her role as an opposition figure in Sierra Leone’s democracy.

Known for her outspoken criticism of the government, Blyden declared her commitment to holding the administration accountable from the opposition bench. She emphasized her responsibility to critique the president when necessary while also proposing solutions to national issues.

“My role in our democracy is to critique H.E. President Bio from the opposition bench whenever I see fit. So, I cannot accept an appointment from him,” she stated, adding emphatically, “ASTAFULAI.”

Blyden highlighted her track record of challenging government policies while also offering practical alternatives. She cited her advocacy for an organized re-denomination of the Leone currency and her recommendation to involve social media activist Adebayor in COVID-19 awareness efforts in the northern and western regions of the country.

Her stance underscores the importance of opposition voices in a functioning democracy, where constructive criticism and solution-oriented engagement contribute to governance.

While some supporters speculate on her influence within the opposition, her statement leaves little doubt about her firm stance on any potential government role.
