Minister of Communication, Innovation and Technology, Salima Monorma Bah has highlighted key updates on social media content monetization following a meeting between Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh and the CEO of TikTok Shou Zi Chew.
Bah also had a follow-up meeting with the Director of Public Policy and Sub-Saharan Africa, Fortune Magwili-Sibanda wherein they discuss how to strengthen relationship and develop a pathway towards content monetization.
Some of the key points discussed during the meeting are:
They will work together on the various policies (digital marketing regulations) and infrastructures (digital payment systems & platforms) required to ensure that Sierra Leone is ready for monetization.
They will co-facilitate sessions on how content creators can generate revenue from their platforms right now without monetization but also once monetization becomes active.
They will also roll out a content moderation platform that will enable Sierra Leone to easily escalate and flag content that makes the country unsafe and that violates Sierra Leone laws and their community guidelines.
Encouraged by the progress of discussions. She said they are determined to expend every political and social capital that they have to ensure that Sierra Leone is selected as a priority country for monetization, adding that it is the mandate from President Bio and people should rest assured that they will deliver.
It’s a loudable venture, we hope and pray that we use the platform for the right purpose.
