A soldier has reportedly shot and killed a young man and wounded his employer at the Songo tollgate on Monday.
The apprentice later died from his injuries yesterday morning, according to eyewitness accounts .
The driver, identified as Daniel Sesay, remains in hospital receiving medical treatment .
Witnesses said the incident began when Sesay bypassed the tollgate and used an alternative route that community members had repaired. A soldier stationed at the toll point opened fire on the vehicle, striking both occupants .
No official statement has been issued on why live ammunition was used .
The shooting has renewed scrutiny of the toll road operated under a 27-year Build, Own, Operate and Transfer agreement between the Government of Sierra Leone and China Railway Seventh Group .
