Sierra Leone and Spain have officially assumed the roles of co-facilitators for the Just and Inclusive Energy Transition Platform of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) for the 2025-2026 term.

The announcement came during a virtual meeting convened by IRENA, where Sierra Leone and Spain took over from the outgoing co-facilitators, the United States and South Africa.

Kandeh Yumkella, Sierra Leone’s representative and renowned energy expert, expressed his enthusiasm about this appointment.

“I am honored to partner with Laura Martin Murillo and my esteemed colleagues as we lead this global platform over the next two years. Together, we will strive to ensure a sustainable and inclusive energy future for all,” Yumkella stated.

This platform plays a vital role in advocating for a fair and equitable energy transition, ensuring that renewable energy adoption benefits all, particularly marginalized and developing nations.

As co-facilitators, Sierra Leone and Spain will collaborate on advancing policies that support a just and inclusive transition, addressing both environmental and socioeconomic challenges.

The co-facilitation by Sierra Leone and Spain underscores their growing leadership in the global renewable energy dialogue, positioning both countries as key players in shaping the future of sustainable energy on an international scale.
