Following the Social Protection Bill that was developed by the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, and its partners, Stakeholders in Sierra Leone’s Northern Region have on the 18th June 2024 threw their firm support towards its implementation.  

It was reported that, it was revealed during an ongoing Regional Consultative Engagements aimed at refining the bill’s key provisions through inputs and recommendations.

The Ministry and its partners are gathering insights, ideas and recommendations to shape the final version of the bill, which will become a National Social Protection Law, upon parliamentary approval and it is strongly supported by the World Bank.

They maintained that, participants, who are meeting at the Makeni City Council, will review and enhance the draft document, as further consultations for the development of the Social Protection Bill continues, adding that the consultative exercise, started in the Eastern Region and will continue to other parts of the country to ensure comprehensive stakeholder input, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive policymaking.

The Regent Chief of Bombali-Shebora Chiefdom, PC Pa Foday Conteh, maintained that, the bill represents a significant step towards improving the social safety nets for their communities and they are committed to providing constructive feedback to ensure that the final law is robust and inclusive.
