As the fight to contain the third wave of the Corona virus takes center stage, Government does not only need to reintroduce measures that help curtail the spread of the virus but also require to get healthcare workers in place as they are strategic in the fight.
However, report reaching the Standard Times Newspaper States that Covid-19 Health workers attached to the Makeni Regional Hospital have given a 21-day notice to NaCOVERC and other related government health bodies to offset their seven months backlog payments, without which they will lay down tools, leaving both the Covid-19 isolation unit and the treatment center.
A protest letter has been written to that effect, copying the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, NaCOVERC National Chairman, the DMO of Bombali and the ACC Northern branch.
It is said that Port Loko District is alo suffering from similar ordeal with urgent effort not being made to address the current floating crisis.
When NaCOVERC’s National Chairman, Lawyer Solomon Jamiru, was contacted to respond to the complaint, he promised to crosscheck the truth-value of the non-payment with the Finance Department and will revert upon what comes up.
