The recent announcement by the University of Sierra Leone regarding a 25 percent fee increment for the current academic year has sparked widespread discontent among students enrolled in the university’s constituent colleges

As was previously reported by Sorie Ibrahim Fofanah, he noted that, the Director of Public Relations, Alumni, and International Affairs for USL, James Tamba Lebbie confirmed the increment in an interview with Politico. He attributed the increase to the inflation affecting prices of goods and services.

The students interviewed by Politico expressed their dissatisfaction with the increment, describing it as a “significant financial burden.”

Many saw it as a challenging issue for some students that could not even pay the previous fees and another has been added that is doubling the previous one also.

The constituents colleges of the University of Sierra Leone been the Fourah Bay College (FBC), the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (CHOMAS) and Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) have all got similar concerns by the students for which they seek an immediate redress to the present situation as they called on the government and other educational stakeholders to intervene.
