The Supreme Court on Tuesday, fixed Friday 27 January 2023, for judgment in the suit against the PR system brought by the opposition APC.
The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone will on Friday deliver judgment in the suit against the PR system brought by the opposition challenging the legality of using the Proportional Representation System in the 2023 elections.
In less than a month after arguments commence where opposing lawyers argued that President’s directive to the Electoral Commission to use the PR system for parliamentary elections in the 2023 elections is unlawful since there were existing constituencies at the time the directive was given and that the Commission had provided no compelling and clear explanation for resorting to the PR system
State Counsels argued that the President acted within the powers conferred on him by the Constitution, stating that the President’s power to issue such directives cannot be questioned in a court of law.
Judgment for the above matter is now fixed for Friday 27 January 2023 at 10 am prompt at the Law Court building court No.1 in Freetown
The Matter is been presided over by the Chief Justice of Sierra Leone.
