Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister Dr. David Sengeh has criticized opposition politician Dr. Sylvia Blyden, describing her as “not a good role model” for society.

In an interview with Africa Young Voices (AYV), Dr. Sengeh addressed questions regarding his relationship with the First Lady and Dr. Blyden.

Dr. Sengeh expressed his admiration for the First Lady, describing her as an “amazing woman” and highlighting their collaborative work. He referenced numerous videos and photographs as evidence of their professional relationship, emphasizing mutual respect between them.

When asked about Dr. Blyden’s social media posts, Dr. Sengeh remarked, “I don’t see Sylvia’s posts, to be honest. It’s only when people forward them to me that I see so much negativity. I don’t know where all this is coming from.”

He further stated, “I don’t want my kids or young people to ever emulate that behavior. I don’t think she is a good role model for society. This is not an attack; it’s just my observation.”

Dr. Sengeh criticized the manner in which Dr. Blyden communicates, stating, “That’s not how people in society should communicate. You can’t be an example to citizens or young people with such conduct.”

Despite the criticism, Dr. Sengeh asserted that Dr. Blyden’s actions do not impact him personally. “It doesn’t affect me. I wake up every day, serve the people of this country, and continue with my life.”

Acknowledging Dr. Blyden’s role in the opposition, Dr. Sengeh commented, “Dr. Sylvia is in the opposition, and I don’t expect her to praise me, the President, or the government. That’s the role of an unprogressive opposition—to attack the government rather than contribute.”

Dr. Sengeh further affirmed his support for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), expressing confidence in their governance and future electoral success. “I am a proud SLPP member. We are in government, and we will win again because we are serving the people and doing what matters.”
