Head of the Teachers’ Solidarity Movement (TSM), Sallieu Kanu, along with the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU) has after several meetings held told this medium on 25th July, 2022, that based on the 45% increment approved for teachers by the Government of Sierra Leone, there has been dissatisfaction over the quarterly segmented 15% to be rationed annually to teachers from next year 2023 January.
This he said is a great concern that would seriously effect them, as their report would soon be handed over to the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education for critical examination again and consideration.
The Head of TSM, Sallieu Kanu, admonished that the 45% increment
was not the major challenge for teachers in Sierra Leone but the 45% should have been given in aggregated form (Bulk) not in quarterly ration as initially pronounced by the Government of Sierra Leone through MBSSE.
He further maintained that the Government through its Ministry must start the allocation of payment of the increment of salary to teachers in the country this year August 2022 or next year 2023 with 45% in bulk but not in 15%, if not they will embark on a sit down strike.
He concluded by explaining that the conscientious meeting was held recently in the various districts in the country but the Western area seems unwilling to cooperate and a press release would soon be issued out to the public.
