Tongo, in Lower Bambara Chiefdom, Kenema District, is on edge following the alleged killing of a Lowoma bike rider.

The incident led to anger among local bike riders and residents, leading to roadblocks and unrest in the town.

According to reports, two suspects were involved in the attack. One has reportedly been arrested, while the other is still on the run. The arrested suspect is believed to be connected to a group of Chinese medicine sellers who allegedly arranged for the rider to transport them and then stabbed him to death, taking his motorbike.

The chaos broke out on Wednesday, especially around the police barracks in the town. As tension grew, Police were forced to fire tear gas in an attempt to calm the crowd and move the suspect to safety, but tensions remained high throughout the day.

Some members of the Bike Riders Union (BRU) from Kenema have travelled to Tongo to help ease the situation. According to reports, the Union is working with local authorities to restore calm.
