In commemoration of the Breast Cancer Day 2020 in Sierra Leone, Thinking Pink, a breast cancer Foundation has conducted free test for staff on Orange Telecom in Freetown.
The event which held yesterday October 26, 2020 had in attendance The Chief Executive Officer of Thinking Pink, Cremelda Pakinson Pratt; Manger of Cooperate Social Responsibility, Orange Sierra Leone, Desmond Spain, Staff and members of the Press.
Earlier, the foundation has embarked on a week long breast awareness and sensitisation campaign to various provinces in Sierra Leone while providing free tests for the participants.
While speaking at the event, Cremelda Pakinson Pratt commended Orange Sierra Leone for sponsoring the foundation’s breast cancer awareness and treatment in Sierra Leone emphasizing that Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death globally and Sierra Leone is part of it.
According to Pratt, there is need for every woman and young lady to conduct self examination on their breast ten days after experiencing their monthly period for early detection and treatment of Breast cancer.
She added that women are most vulnerable to breast cancer but it does not only affect women.
In his remarks, Manger of Cooperate Social Responsibility, Orange Sierra Leone, Desmond Spain commended the foundation for its laudable and relentless efforts towards reducing the risk of cancer diseases in the society. As a form of solidarity, He said the management of Organge Sierra Leone has declared the rest of the October month as breast cancer day.
Spain added that the Management of Orange Sierra Leone will explore the platform created by Thinking Pink to conduct breast cancer test on all staff its head office, customer service shops and market places-to give the grassroots people the opportunity to examine their breast for cancer.
“We will also support the treatment of breast cancer victims to the extent of financing surgery for some of those victims.”, He added.
