The Manager of the Mobile Health Clinic (Hospital on Wheel), Doctor Yeabu Kargbo stated that the healthcare service was introduced by the Government of Sierra Leone, sponsored by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources purposely to provide medical treatments to every sick person within various communities in the country, including the fishing community of Tombo.
The Hospital on Wheel, which is to execute the free healthcare service, made their first appearance at the fishing community in Tombo on Sunday, 23rd February, 2025, and drew the attention of over 800 residents, who converged at the Mobile Clinic spot in the community with different health issues.
Doctor Yeabu Kargbo commended the Government of Sierra Leone stating that the free healthcare service is the best initiative ever implemented because, she said it is real and the people are utilizing it because they know it is for them. She revealed, “we’ve already seen 800, and it seems like we haven’t seen anything yet.”
While reiterating the heartfelt appreciation for the free healthcare service initiative, she called on sponsors for smooth running and sustainability of the service. “We need sponsors! this thing is real, it is saving lives and its impact or effect is felt immediately,” she urged sponsors.
Among the many residents that converged at the Mobile Clinic spot, Doctor Yeabu vividly revealed a seven months pregnant woman with a swollen feet, and stated that after running a test on the woman, she discovered that she has protein in her urine, and also has a high blood pressure which she said it is the cause of the many problems pregnant women are normally faced with.
Doctor Yeabu went forward to explain the health change of a year girl child whom she said was suffering from a bad wind infection. She explained, “the swollen face of this young girl is as a result of bad wind infection, and they were using native medicines to cure it, but we currently have the medication for it here, and it’s very expensive; we are going to treat it, and by the grace of God, she will recover within 48 hours.”
The Director of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Sheiku Sei explained, “this is the third face of the crowd. Today, they have seen a new life and hope, and we would ensure that this initiative be a continuous service, and we will implement it in all the coastal areas in the country.”
