On Friday, January 24, 2025, Hon. Nabeela Farida Tunis, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, conducted her first inspection of several construction sites funded by the Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project (SLeDEP).

The inspection covered key sites, including Leicester Peak, Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and Bureh Town Community.

The Minister emphasized the importance of these inspections to ensure the timely progress of projects critical to the growth of Sierra Leone’s tourism sector. “This timely inspection aims to ensure we are on track to meet our goal of enhancing the tourism industry in Sierra Leone,” Minister Tunis stated.

The visit also served to boost contractor efficiency, with the Minister urging them to intensify their efforts in order to meet the expected completion date of September 2025.

During her tour, significant progress was noted at the respective sites, with some structures already completed. “This is a positive sign for the project’s timeline,” Minister Tunis added with optimism.

The Minister was accompanied by senior staff from the Ministry, including Director of Tourism Travel and Exchange Programs Mohamed Jalloh, Senior Tourist Officer Mohamed Barrie, and Senior Tourist Officer Abdul Malik.

Also present were staff members of the Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project, including Project Coordinator Mary Jalloh and Tourism Specialist Prince Gaima.
