The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs presented its Manpower documents for FY 2026 during the Annual Manpower Hearing held at the Civil Service Training College in Freetown.

The session was guided by the theme “Aligning Workforce Capacity with National Development Goals.”

Sahr Philip Morsay, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, mentioned that despite financial challenges, the Ministry secured the addition of Gola-Tiwai to the UNESCO World Heritage list.

According to Moseray, the Ministry of Lands allocated 6,000 hectares of land for tourism development, adding that the Ministry trained over 300 workers, including frontline staff.

“Other accomplishments included robust digital and international marketing that boosted tourist arrivals by 44%, the successful hosting of Women in Tourism Regional Congress, and participation in regional and international trade fairs,” said Moseray.

These efforts according to Moseray contributed to Minister Nabeela Tunis being recognized as the Best Tourism Minister in West Africa.’’ He said.

Director of Tourism, Travel and Exchange Programs, Mohamed Jalloh, reinforced these achievements with statistical data while also stressing challenges such as environmental destruction, which the Ministry is actively working to mitigate.

Finally, the panel commended the Ministry’s strides, urging them to sustain their efforts. They also assured that steps would be taken to increase manpower and uplift staff capacity within the Ministry. Questions and concerns from the panel were promptly addressed by the Director of Tourism, Deputy Secretary, and other officials present.
