Fuel Scarcity has been one big factor that affects all sectors of life in Sierra Leone. This is because transportation is key that aids other sectors to reach the target market. In Sierra Leone, over this short period of time, Fuel has hiked from Le10, Le15, Le18 and presently Le22. Despite all the constraints fellow Sierra Leoneans are facing, it has reached the Trade Ministry that gas stations are artificially making the fuel Scarce in Sierra Leone.
With dismay over this unpatriotic act on some Sierra Leoneans, Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Hinga Sandy, sets to embark on an on-the-spot check at gas stations in Freetown to inspect for products.
On an exclusive interview with Trade Ministry, Dr. Hinga Sandy, the monitoring process would be in partnership with the consortium of Petroleum and Industrial Relations. In his talk, he furthered that it has reached him that there are gas stations with over 18,000 litres of fuel and yet refused to make it available to the public. They are causing artificial scarcity of fuel which if not stopped would result to another fuel hike price in Sierra Leone.
According to Dr. Hinga Sandy, they had some gas stations they checked and noticed that there is fuel but the owners refused to sell to the public. As the Trade Minister in collaboration with PRA, a search will be done starting Monday 4th July 2022 to reach all gas stations in Sierra Leone. Any of them found wanting, the Minister will take their licenses off from them and off course face the penalty of the law.
He also on the exclusive interview disclosed that similar operations will be done across the country to bring perpetrators to book.
