A mini-survey, conducted by the National Commission for Democracy in December last year, shows a low level of trust by citizens towards Members of Parliament.

According to the citizens, the roles and responsibilities of Members of Parliament should be made explicit. The policy brief revealed that the expectation of citizens have not been met over the years, noting that the expected monitoring of development by MPs has not yielded many fruits.

The brief further threw light on the need for constituency offices as paramount in the building trust. The idea of political strongholds should be revisited to avoid unnecessary tension, the policy brief dictates.

The policy brief also unearths that the relationship between MPs and Councillors is usually not cordial and that the manner in which party symbols are usually awarded is a cause for concern.
