The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has unveiled the Teacher Management Information System (TMIS), a digital platform that allows teachers to submit applications without physical contact.
The scheme was unveiled by the commission’s chairman Lans Keifala, on Tuesday, August 6 2025 at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education weekly press conference.
He announced the recruitment of 3,300 teachers in 2025, with 2,000 funded by the government, continuing a trend of 2,000 new recruits per year over the last three years.
Also, a new teacher quota system, based on the pupil-teacher ratio, has been introduced to ensure fair distribution of teachers nationwide.
Keifala further disclosed that teachers with Master’s degree will now receive Vice Principal pay, and that the TSC is collaborating with the Sierra Leone Teachers’ Union (SLTU) to provide soft loans at 10% interest rates.
According to him, discussions are ongoing with the Ministry of Finance to reintroduce the remote area allowance to encourage rural teaching assignments.
With this new scheme, teachers are ensure of securing jobs out of merit against connection.
