The President has received formal approval from twelve registered political parties for the appointment of Mr. Edmond S. Alpha as Chief Electoral Commissioner (CEC) and Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

The confirmation was disclosed by Yusuf Keketoma Sandi, Press Secretary to the President, who stated that official letters of endorsement had been submitted by the respective political parties in support of the nomination.

The endorsing parties include the National Democratic Alliance, Alliance Democratic Party, National Grand Coalition (NGC), Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), United National People’s Party (UNPP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peace and Liberation Party (PLP), Citizens Democratic Party (CDP), Revolutionary United Front Party (RUFP), People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), United Democratic Movement (UDM), and the Republic National Independent Party.

According to the Press Secretary, the endorsements reflect broad-based political backing for Mr. Alpha’s appointment to head the country’s electoral management body.

Mr. Alpha’s nomination as CEC and Chairman of the ECSL is expected to play a pivotal role in the oversight and management of Sierra Leone’s electoral processes.
