Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Representative to the United Nations, has arrived in Sierra Leone for a diplomatic visit, commencing on Wednesday, 24th January 2024.

During her stay, she will engage in a series of discussions with various stakeholders, including civil society, young leaders, and government officials.

In a tweet, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed her arrival, stating, “Wheels down in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Over the next two days, I’ll have the chance to meet with civil society, young leaders, and government officials. Follow along!”

This diplomatic tour aligns with the Biden Administration’s objectives for Africa, emphasizing commitments to democracy, the empowerment of women and youth, promotion of regional peace and security, and the advancement of inclusive and sustainable development. The visit underscores the United States’ dedication to fostering strong diplomatic ties and partnerships with nations across the African continent.

Before arriving in Sierra Leone, the Ambassador’s diplomatic journey included stops in Guinea Bissau and Liberia, as outlined in a Press Release issued on January 20, 2024. The tour commenced on January 21 and is scheduled to conclude on January 26, 2024.

A highlight of her visit includes leading the U.S. Presidential Delegation to the Inauguration of President-elect His Excellency, Joseph Boakai in Liberia, further emphasizing the United States’ commitment to promoting stability and collaboration in the region.
