The Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) has announced that all available Diversity Visa (DV) appointments for the 2025 fiscal year have been scheduled for Sierra Leonean applicants and third-country nationals seeking interviews at the U.S. Embassy in Freetown.
According to the update, individuals who have not received appointment notices will not be scheduled during this fiscal year. The KCC expressed appreciation to applicants for their interest and encouraged them to consider applying again in future lottery programs.
The notice also reiterates that Sierra Leonean citizens remain ineligible to receive DV visas under the current U.S. Presidential Proclamation. This restriction applies regardless of the applicant’s place of residence, country of application, or interview location.
The Diversity Visa Program, commonly known as the “Green Card Lottery,” allocates up to 55,000 immigrant visas annually to individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States. However, eligibility can be affected by changes in U.S. immigration policy, including presidential directives.
This development means that Sierra Leoneans selected in the FY2025 DV Lottery will not be issued visas, even if their cases were processed or scheduled for interviews outside Sierra Leone.
