The United States Embassy in Sierra Leone has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening relations with the people of Sierra Leone while safeguarding the integrity of its visa system, following the hosting of a Visa Security and Anti-Fraud Workshop in collaboration with the Supreme Islamic Council of Sierra Leone (SICRSL).

The workshop brought together more than 200 imams and Muslim community leaders from across the country, underscoring the importance of community engagement in preventing visa fraud and misuse.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chargé d’Affaires Jared Yancey, Director Emmanuel Turay of the Ministry of Information, and SICRSL Secretary General Sheik Ibrahim Barrie emphasized the role of partnership between government institutions and community leaders in protecting both Sierra Leonean and American interests.

Chargé d’Affaires Yancey highlighted the significance of visa integrity to U.S. security policy, noting that visas must be used strictly for their intended purposes to ensure the credibility and effectiveness of the system.

The Embassy also used the occasion to highlight consular services available to American citizens in Sierra Leone and reiterated the importance of collaboration with religious and community leaders in the fight against fraud.

The workshop marks a significant step in strengthening cooperation between U.S. officials and Sierra Leone’s Muslim leadership. Participants expressed optimism that sustained engagement will help protect communities, uphold U.S. law, and promote shared values of trust, transparency, and mutual respect.
