The U.S. Embassy in Freetown has announced the successful completion of a month-long training program for personnel of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).

The qfocused on the maintenance and operation of a military Depot staging facility, an essential asset for regional military operations.

The training, conducted in partnership with the U.S. contractor Triple Canopy, involved both classroom instruction and practical, hands-on learning experiences.

In a tweet dated September 27, the Embassy highlighted that this initiative is part of ongoing collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Defense to enhance the professionalism of the Sierra Leone military. The program underscores the commitment of the United States to support Sierra Leone in building a capable and effective military force.

Looking ahead, the U.S. Embassy confirmed that it will officially hand over the permanent operation of the Depot staging facility to the RSLAF on December 1, 2024. U.S. Ambassador Bryan D. Hunt reiterated the importance of a professional military in promoting stability, security, and the protection of citizens’ rights in Sierra Leone. He emphasized that such advancements are crucial for fostering prosperity and strengthening the foundations of a vibrant democracy in the country.
