Yema Lucilda Hunter is a Sierra Leonean librarian, novelist, and biographer born in Freetown in 1943 and has passed away in Ghana.
After the announcement of her death, popular Sierra Leonean BBC reporter Umaru Fofana reacted to her death.
“I’m shellshocked! I’ve just learned of the passing yesterday of one of my favorite Sierra Leoneans. Yema Lucilda Hunter inspired me as a kid. I grew up reading her books and I particularly remember ROAD TO FREEDOM and JOY CAME IN THE MORNING. So when she and I became friends after she reached out to me about my journalism, I felt truly humbled and always wanted to meet her in person. She lived abroad, so we couldn’t meet although it felt like we did because she was very active on social media and I was left surprised by how promptly she sometimes reacted to my posts. Sadly I will never have the honor of meeting her in person. Rest In Peace, Legend!”.
