The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) hosted a joint Needs Assessment Mission (NAM) team, comprising representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), and the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (UNDPPA).
The meeting took place on Monday, 9th June, 2025, at the ECSL Conference Room, following a formal request from the ECSL for electoral assistance in preparation for the upcoming 2025-2029 electoral cycle.
The delegation, led by Mr. Akinyemi Adegbola, was welcomed by the Chief Electoral Commissioner (CEC) and Chairman of the ECSL, who emphasized the importance of the meeting.
During the discussions, the ECSL highlighted key areas of focus, including the ongoing development of the electoral cycle strategic plan and the implementation of tripartite recommendations aimed at enhancing the electoral process in Sierra Leone.
The NAM team expressed appreciation for the ECSL’s ongoing efforts to improve the electoral framework and reiterated their commitment to assessing the electoral context. Their objective is to establish new parameters for UN technical electoral assistance for the 2028 elections.
As part of the mission, the NAM team plans to engage with various stakeholders involved in the electoral process, poising to conduct an exit meeting with the ECSL before concluding their visit, ensuring that all insights gathered during the discussions are effectively communicated.
The United nations mission spoke about future elections, NOT 2028. We know there’s a winner of the June 24th, 2023 multi tier elections in Dr SAMURA MW KAMARA President Elect. MAADA BIO knows that, and any attempt to deny the mandate of the people of Sierra Leone will be counter productive and will be met with stiff resistance. We’re NOT joking about our rights as citizens to vote.
