The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in partnership with WANEP, Swedish-based agency, FBAFOLKE, and funding from the UN Peacebuilding has started a 5-day retreat for the national election group.
The engagement is based on insider mediators in Sierra Leone on dialogue and mediation in the electoral context.
UNDP has also engaged in facilitating women partners on the current electoral reforms and their implications on women’s proportional representation in parliament and local councils ahead of the 2023 elections. This was done through a working relationship with UN women with support from Irish Aid.
The UNDP also donated some information and communication technology equipments to the Sierra Leone office of national security to help in the security sector of the country. This equipment will enable a quick response to early warnings before, during, and after the June 2023 elections. The said gesture is recorded to be part of the UNDPUNICEFF joint UN peacebuilding fund project for peaceful elections and cohesion in Sierra Leone.
