The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has officially launched Youth Circularity 2030 in Sierra Leone, an initiative aimed at empowering young innovators to support the country’s transition toward a circular economy.
The programme promotes youth-led solutions for sustainable development, with a focus on improving how products are designed, repaired, reused, and recycled to minimize environmental impact. It places particular emphasis on addressing electronic waste (e-waste) and end-of-life technologies by turning waste management challenges into economic opportunities for young people.
Through partnerships with universities nationwide, Youth Circularity 2030 seeks to equip participants with practical skills in sustainable design, repair, and recycling. The initiative also aims to support young entrepreneurs in developing enterprises that generate employment, promote environmental protection, and contribute to inclusive economic growth.
UNDP officials said the programme aligns with broader global efforts to advance a circular economy that is environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive. They noted that engaging young people in innovation-driven solutions is critical to addressing growing environmental concerns while strengthening economic resilience.
The launch positions Sierra Leone among countries advancing youth-focused approaches to sustainability and green enterprise development.
