The University of Makeni (UniMak) has won the ECOWAS University Debate Championship, a tournament organized by the ECOWAS Volunteers Program.

The event took place at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development Conference Hall in Freetown, bringing together some of Sierra Leone’s top academic institutions for a competition of intellect and oratory prowess.

Mr. Abdulai Barrie and Miss Lamarana Samualla Gibateh represented UniMak and performed well, finishing first with a total point average of 83. They outperformed teams from Fourah Bay College (FBC), the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), and Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU), strengthening UniMak’s reputation as a debate and public speaking leader.

This victory shows UniMak’s continued achievement in intellectual debate, logical thinking, and competitive arguing. The UniMak Debating Council has set up itself as a strong force, continually elevating the standard of intellectual and linguistic excellence in Sierra Leone and outside.

In acknowledgment of their accomplishment, the university thanked Mr. Barrie and Miss Gibateh for their dedication and skill, congratulating them for continuing UniMak’s heritage of excellence. Gratitude was also expressed to the students who supported the team, establishing a sense of unity and encouragement during the competition.

UniMak’s reputation as an institution dedicated to cultivating eloquence, promoting meaningful dialogue, and creating the future via intellectual engagement is strengthened by this win.

The university hopes to achieve even greater success in future tournaments, building on its tradition of academic brilliance and debate.
