The University of Makeni (UNIMAK) has deferred the orientation and matriculation ceremonies for prospective students of Sylvanus Koroma Campus, Yoni, and Fatima Campus, Makeni.
The orientation ceremony, which was scheduled for 28th to 30th October, has been shelved to December 3rd to 5th.
Likewise, the matriculation ceremony that was initially set to hold on October 31st has been rescheduled for December 6, 2024.
According to the head of UniMak Public Relations Directorate, Shebora Samba Kamara, the ceremonies were postponed to relieve the burden of the prospective students who have just completed their entrance examination and interviews.
“The orientation and matriculation ceremonies were postponed basically to ease the burden on the new students in terms of cost and the need to rush to catch up with the dates, ” Shebora Samba Kamara said.
Kamara added: “Remember some recently came for their interviews. It would be a serious burden for them to come back and wait till the 31st for matriculation and then go again to come back on the 4th for the reopening of College.”
He also said the new development aims to give other people the opportunity to apply for programs at the University of Makeni.
“We still want to give other people the opportunity to be enrolled in UNIMAK. Hence, we are still encouraging prospective students to apply. Mostly, when people hear that students have matriculated, they tend to conclude that admissions have been closed. So, to avoid that confusion, we have rescheduled it to a time when admissions would have ended,” he said.
