In a recent interview with AYV News, the US Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan Hunt, addressed concerns regarding political interference in the Sierra Leone Bar Association’s leadership election. Ambassador Hunt emphasized the importance of political parties maintaining neutrality in the electoral process.
He stressed that political parties should understand that the Bar Association election is not about affiliations with any specific party, be it APC or SLPP. Instead, it revolves around selecting individuals who are capable of effectively managing an association dedicated to upholding the rule of law and promoting human rights
Ambassador Hunt urged political parties to refrain from involvement in the election process, emphasizing that they should not interfere or exert influence on the outcome.
His comments come in the wake of allegations of irregularities and the perceived hijacking of the recent Sierra Leone Bar Association Annual General Meeting and leadership election. Concerns have been raised regarding actions favoring a candidate perceived to be aligned with the government.
