Since January, the Guinean government has been under scrutiny following the seizure of a vehicle allegedly linked to the Sierra Leonean Embassy in Guinea.

Authorities reportedly discovered harmful substances inside the vehicle, suspected to be cocaine.

The discovery has triggered a series of investigations and speculations, including allegations involving a foreigner allegedly connected to drug trafficking.

Reports suggest that this individual was seen standing near Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio, at a recent church event.

In a recent interview, Alhaji Alpha Kanu, the Presidential Spokesman for Sierra Leone, addressed the ongoing investigation. He provided insights into the government’s stance on the matter, stating: “Sierra Leone is a country that upholds religious freedom, and everyone is welcome to attend public religious events, including church gatherings.” He further clarified that the widely circulated video showing an alleged foreign drug dealer near President Bio does not provide any conclusive evidence linking the President to the individual.

Kanu emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency, stating that “the authorities are fully cooperating with relevant bodies to ensure an independent investigation.” He also reassured the public that law enforcement agencies, including the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), are leading the probe, with findings to be disclosed in due course. He stressed that President Bio remains committed to rebranding Sierra Leone’s global image, and incidents like these should not overshadow the country’s progress.

The case has attracted both local and international attention. Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu addressed the matter during a weekly press briefing, revealing that investigators are actively following leads concerning the individual allegedly involved in drug trafficking.

The suspect, identified by some sources as Umarr Sheriff, has raised questions regarding his presence at the church event and his alleged links to the drug trade. However, I.G. Sellu disclosed that law enforcement agencies have faced challenges in verifying Sheriff’s identity. “A review of border records from the past six months shows no trace of an individual named Umarr Sheriff,” he stated.

Despite receiving reports about the suspect’s possible whereabouts, law enforcement has been unable to locate him. “We are committed to uncovering the truth,” said I.G. Sellu. “We will follow due process and keep the public updated weekly on the progress of this investigation. Our goal is to protect the integrity and reputation of Sierra Leone both locally and internationally.”

As the case continues to unfold, authorities urge the public to remain patient and allow due process to take its course. The government has reiterated its dedication to transparency and justice, hoping to dispel any misconceptions while maintaining Sierra Leone’s credibility on the global stage.
