The United States Embassy in Freetown has temporarily closed its operation to the people of Sierra Leone on Monday, October 9 2023 in recognition of the Columbus Day. 

The Embassy will resume operation to the public on Tuesday October 9, 2023 during its normal working hours.

“The U.S. Embassy will be closed for official business today October 09 in honor of Columbus Day – U.S. Holiday. The embassy will resume official business tomorrow October 10.” a statement posted on the Embassy’s Facebook page reads.

Columbus Day is celebrated in the United States as a holiday (originally October 12; since 1971 the second Monday in October) to commemorate the landing of Christopher Columbus on October 12, 1492, in the New World.
