Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has urged African nations to strengthen collaboration on securing community land rights, calling it a cornerstone for stability and sustainable development on the continent.
The Vice President made the call on Monday while delivering the opening address at the 5th Regional Conference of the Africa Land Institutions Network for Community Rights (ALIN) at the Bintumani International Conference Center.
He commended Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning for shifting its focus “from land transactions to effective governance,” a move he indicated is critical for progress.

Jalloh described the conference as timely, noting that African governments are under increasing pressure to balance investment-driven economic growth with the protection of citizens’ land rights.
“If we want to expand domestic resources, we must drive investment and trade to boost production,” the Vice President stated, highlighting the need for this balance.
He urged the assembled delegates and land governance experts to use the conference to share best practices and strengthen institutional performance across Africa.
“Make no mistake,” Jalloh concluded, “land governance is, and will continue to be, one of the most important issues for generations to come.”
Reaffirming Sierra Leone’s commitment, the Vice President pointed to the country’s leadership in land reform, specifically the enactment of the landmark 2022 Customary Land Rights Act. He also cited ongoing digital transformation initiatives designed to make land administration more transparent and attractive to investors.
