The Vice President of Sierra Leone, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has joined the nation and the international community in commemorating this year’s International Women’s Day under the theme “Give To Gain”, which he said reflects the sacrifices and achievements of many Sierra Leonean women who have contributed to peace, equality, and good governance.

According to the Vice President, the theme captures the stories of women across the country who have continued to play vital roles in strengthening the foundations of national development.

As part of the celebrations, a national dialogue was held to review the status of women in Sierra Leone, particularly through the lens of the implementation of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act. The dialogue aimed to assess progress made so far and identify key areas that require further action.

The discussion is expected to serve as a strategic contribution to the upcoming National Women’s Conference, ensuring that the conference remains inclusive and focused on practical outcomes in the medium term.

Vice President Jalloh noted that the story of Sierra Leone is increasingly becoming one where women are at the forefront of shaping their own experiences and contributing meaningfully to the country’s future.

He also acknowledged the continued commitment of the President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, whom he described as a strong supporter of women’s empowerment and a key advocate for advancing gender equality as a pillar of the country’s medium-term national development agenda.

The Vice President concluded his message by celebrating the courage and resilience of Sierra Leonean women, assuring them that their voices are recognized and valued.

“We see you, and we hear you. Happy International Women’s Day-your courage remains exemplary,” he stated.
