Over 200 kids at the Rainy Season Orphanage in Freetown are beneficiaries of the Gilo Education and Economic Development (GEED) Foundation’s traditional new year feeding programme.
In a heartwarming display of love and affection, the Chief Executive Officer of GEED Foundation who is also the Managing Director of Rokel Commercial Bank, Dr Walton Ekundayo Gilpin emphasized the need to protect children as he stepped forward to personally share food packages to the orphans before dining with them.
Earlier, GEED Foundation Executive Director, Asylia Jartue Gilpin re-echoed the organization’s commitment to help vulnerable children and catalogued the numerous development projects GEED Foundation has carried out in Freetown, Bo, Bonthe, Port Loko and Tonkolili – supporting women and girls.
A member of the Rainy Season Orphanage team, Reverend Lagah recalled how the Rokel Commercial Bank Bank Managing Director has made a similar gesture to the orphanage in the past and encouraged other well-meaning groups and individuals in Sierra Leone to emulate the GEED Foundation.
GEED Foundation was established in 2007 to help provide for the educational, economic and social wellbeing of Sierra Leonean women and girls. The organization has over the years spearheaded several self-funded projects including educational scholarships, microfinance and school materials. Currently, the organization is piloting a Debate and Public Speaking project to boost public speaking in school with the construction of modern Podiums in four districts.
