Chairman of the Presidential Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, participated in a candlelight night march organized by the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG) on Monday, 19 January 2026.
The event, which brought together students and alumni, provided a platform for solidarity and reflection.
Speaking about his attendance, Dr. Yumkella noted the personal significance of the school in his life. “I began my early education at FSSG, where I attended from nursery through Class 3, before proceeding to Services Primary School (Army School) in Wilberforce,” he said.
He described the evening as both a moment of solidarity with the school community and an opportunity for personal reflection on his formative years.

During the event, Dr. Yumkella was pictured alongside his cousin, Madam Kadi Yilla, who was one class ahead of him at the time, highlighting the personal connections that shaped his early schooling.
Dr. Yumkella’s participation notably reflects his enduring ties to FSSG and his commitment to supporting initiatives that bring together students, alumni, and the wider community. His remarks were shared on his official Facebook page.
