Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF), Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, has urged collective action to advance Sierra Leone’s sustainable energy transition.

Dr. Yumkella, who also chairs the Energy Governance System, made the call while welcoming members of the Core Estate at the Climate Resilience Energy Transition (CRET) 2024 Conference held at the Bintumani International Conference Centre in Freetown.

In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in building resilient energy systems capable of driving inclusive growth and climate adaptation. He reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to ensuring clean energy access, strengthening climate resilience, and promoting food security through strategic partnerships.

Dr. Yumkella commended the dedication of stakeholders, ranging from government representatives, development partners, and private sector actors to civil society organizations and youth advocates, for their continued contribution to the nation’s green growth agenda.

He called on all participants to ensure that the outcomes of CRET 2024 translate into concrete policies and projects that will enhance livelihoods and protect the environment for future generations.
