Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella, Chair of the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF), and acting on behalf of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and Minister of Energy, has paid a working visit to the Planet Solar Project Site in Kono.
The 10-megawatt solar farm is one of Sierra Leone’s key renewable energy projects designed to accelerate the nation’s transition toward clean, reliable, and sustainable power.
During the visit, Yumkella assessed the project’s current progress and challenges, while commending the technical teams for their dedication to maintaining a steady power supply in the Kono District.


He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding renewable energy access and ensuring that every district benefits from modern, green infrastructure.
The Planet Solar initiative forms part of the government’s broader vision to transform Sierra Leone’s energy landscape, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and strengthen rural electrification through innovative partnerships and investments in solar technology.
