Hon. Kandeh Yumkella, on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio, confirmed his recent visit to the Dodo/Goma hydropower station. Leading a delegation from the Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC), Yumkella emphasized the government’s commitment to upgrading the facility.

The vision is to upgrade Dodo from 6 to 12 MW to supply Bo, Kenema, and Kono,” Yumkella stated, highlighting the ambitious plan to enhance the region’s power supply.

The expansion aims to address the increasing energy demands of these key areas, fostering economic growth and improving living standards.

Expressing his gratitude, Yumkella acknowledged the collaborative efforts that made this initiative possible. “My gratitude to the Ministry of Energy, EGTC, the Regent Chief of Dodo Chiefdom, Paramount Chief of Kakua Chiefdom, Chiefdom Speaker of Simbaru Chiefdom, and the District Council Chairmen of both Bo and Kenema. Special thanks also to the Mayor of Bo City and the Chairman of the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy for their support and collaboration,” he said.

The upgrade of the Dodo/Goma hydropower station is part of the broader strategy to enhance Sierra Leone’s energy infrastructure. By doubling the station’s capacity, the government aims to provide a more reliable and efficient power supply, which is crucial for the socio-economic development of the Bo, Kenema, and Kono districts.

This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to sustainable energy solutions and regional development. The support from various local leaders and institutions underscores the project’s importance and the collective effort required to achieve its goals.
