The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has pointed out the discrepancies in the final voter registration figures for Freetown announced by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), and the Statistics Sierra Leone 2021 Census figures.
On Saturday, 24 December, the Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of ECSL, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh released the Final Voters Registration Figures for the 2022 Registration Exercise at a joint Press Conference and PPLC meeting attended by media houses, political party representatives and CSOs at the ECSL Conference Hall.
ECSL announced that the total registration figure is 3,374,258 with Western Rural figures at 341,764, and Western Urban figures at 598,022, taking the Western Region total to 939,786.
In a post shared on social media, shortly after the final figures were published, the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr pointed out the disparities in the ECSL’s registration figures and Statistics Sierra Leone 2021 Census figures.
